Dear children, dear adults!
Let me share some wonderful news with you! I got it from the same "Silly Old Bear" that I am sure you have heard of. His original name is Winnie-the-Pooh, and he lives in a far-off Wood in England. Winnie-the-Pooh has reliably informed me that children from all over the world are friends with Bears just like him, and they have similar names. For instance, children from Spain are friends with Vinny-de-Puh, children from Sweden – with Nalle Puh, children from Latvia – with Vinnijs Puks, children from Russia – with Winni-Puch, children from Poland – with Kubus Puchatek, from the Czech Republic – with Medvidek Pu... Good grief! I can’t go on with the list anymore, because I would have to write a whole book! By now you can guess that in every country children not only hug and love their bears, but they go on different exciting adventures with them.
The sad thing is only that the Belarusian Bear, who goes by the name of Vinia-Pych, got himself lost either in the Deep Dark Forest of Naliboka or in the Woods of Biełavieża [I suggest: Belavezha], or maybe somewhere in the region of the Braslau Lakes. And he vanished without trace. All the other Bears started to worry about their Belarusian friend. And then we finally got the news that our friend had been found!
It so happened that one day our dear Vinia began to fall into his winter sleep, so he slept, and slept, and slept and slept. In fact he slept through several winters in a row. This made us very anxious. We shook him and pinched him – but he just wouldn’t wake up!
Calm down, my dears, and listen closely to what I am going to say. I am going to share a mystery with you. Pych has promised that he won’t just go off and disappear for ages any more. Even if he does go to a party with one of his closest friends, or if he decides to explore some of the dense forests of Belarus, he will let us know in advance, and will tell us exactly when he will be back. He’ll be OK and we won’t worry!
